Moving Tips
To make your move easier, we have put together some hints and tips to help you with your move.
- When wrapping your items, place all your materials at a comfortable height e.g. on a table. This will help to eliminate any lower back strain.
- Always pack glassware and china separately, preferably in bubble wrap as newspaper can leave ink smudges.
- Always fold your boxes bottom side up, making it easier to tape.
- When taping up your boxes, ensure to use strong tape e.g. Duct or Packaging tape. Use at least two strips along the bottom of the box to provide extra strength.
- Before you start packing the boxes, it’s always worth lining them with scrunched up newspaper. This will act as extra cushioning for the items you are about to pack.
- When packing boxes, try placing the box on a chair or previously packed box to bring it up to a height that is comfortable for you.
- It is very important not to overload your boxes, filling it to it’s full capacity may be a satisfying feeling, but if you can’t pick it up then it has all been in vain! Try using small boxes, that way they will be manageable.
- Once a box is packed, fill in any remaining gaps with newspaper to stop items moving around.
- Don’t forget to write on the boxes which rooms they are to go into in the new house. You can also add a small description of the box contents.
- If possible, try to store your packed boxes near a front door; this will enable the boxes to be moved quickly come moving day.
- Most importantly, make sure you keep essential items separately e.g. Kettle, mugs, medicine etc. Make sure this is the last box to be loaded onto the van – it will be the first off at the new house!
